For several years now I have been researching my family history. Anyone else out there a genealogy buff? I got interested in it when I married my hubs. His last name is the same as my mother's maiden name, and our families come from the same general area of the country. I worked really hard at first, but I don't really know much about how to research a family history without having some key information from living relatives. A person has to have a place to start. Over the years, I've been very fortunate to be able to make contact with people online who have been extremely helpful in my search for my ancestors. But I had sort of hit the proverbial 'dead end' and decided to put everything away for a while. A couple of days ago, my friend Esther and I were talking about research each of us had done on our respective family histories, and it sort of put a 'bug' in my mind to do a little more research. I went online to Genealogy.com and browsed thru the message boards. On a whim, I clicked on a random link and found the names and birth, death, marriage dates of grandparents eight generations back. Now I plan to re-subscribe to the ancestry sites and try to find even more information. If anyone has any tips on how to do genealogical research, please drop me a note. I'm very much an amateur.

That's great that you found that info. I have several relatives on my husband's side who have done the research for us, thankfully. I don't know how they went about it tho'. Probably like you, on the internet.
My Uncle has been researching our ancestry for about 20 years. He has accumulated a lot of information; but declines to share any of it. There must be some pretty dark skeletons in our closet! I have done some searching also, but have found very little information. Hope you are more successful in your search.
