Been doing ancestry search lately. Last night I found this picture of my paternal great great grandmother (she's the one on the left).
She lived in the mid-1800's. This, so far, is the only picture I have of any of my ancestors on my father's side.
I love doing ancestry research. I've been spending mass quantities of time on it lately. I love mysteries and doing this research is like solving a mystery. When I find new information, it almost makes me cry. I don't know why it affects me like that, but it does. It makes me wonder what these people were like, why they lived in the places they did, etc. My ancestors from my mother's side of the family originated in Georgia, but ended up in Oklahoma Indian Territory, and intermarried with the Choctaw Indians. Why did they leave Georgia? Why did they settle in Oklahoma? Many questions, but not nearly enough answers to satisfy my curiosity. So, I continue to search and make contact with other relatives, and, little by little, I get more answers to my questions.

ironic, most of my ancestors orginated in GA then to Ok and TX. why left GA, indian removal.. probably already had some native american blood when moved, or that was our situtation I believe. but I agree so much fun! like a treasure hunt. I haven't been able to pursue it lately, but love it when I do.
happy hunting
I think I mentioned this before, but I have an aunt on my side and another aunt on my husband's side who have compiled a lot and gave it to us. Very interesting. One great-great (I don't know how many greats back!) was one of the founder's of Indianapolis IN. Another great was the inventor of a particular brand (species?) of apple, can't remember which one. Interesting stuff. I believe another on my husband's side is related somehow to Abe Lincoln, you know, one of those great-great cousin's uncle's aunt's brother kind of thing! In other words maybe a very teensy tiny drop of blood!
Glad you're making some progress.
