Yesterday I decided to move my bookcase and all my books in from hubby's office to mine. I didn't realize that I had so many books. I threw out a bunch of stuff I had already read, plus about a million catalogs from Oriental Trading Company, and I still didn't have enough room for all my books. I came across a huge stack of old Victoria magazines that I forgot I had, but didn't want to get rid of them. They were taking up too much space in the bookcase, so I decided I'd get some of those nifty magazine file thingies to store them in. I wanted them to be decorative because I wanted to put them on the little shelves that are at the end of my craft table (aka: #1 daughter's old computer desk). Esther told me that WalMart had them and at a good price. So off I went this morning to WallyWorld. All I could find there were hot pink or bright blue ones with that fuzzy stuff made into designs on them. Or they had brown and blue striped ones. Well, since my room is pink and green, none of these options would work. I went to the next aisle and they had the little cheap-o ones for 2 buckeroos, but they were black. So next stop was over at the paint department for some white primer and a can of pink spray paint. Took them home and painted them, and remembered I had this green ribbon stashed in the hall closet from another project, so decided to "decorate" the magazine holders with the ribbon. Here they are. I think they turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself. I made three of them, and have them displayed with another green bin holding still more magazines and tea books.
Here's the side view...

:-) Thanks for the nice comment about the stuff I entered in our local fair. I'll send you that photo album when I get it back from the fair (If you want it~) I have no use for it...it was a "practice" piece that ended up being what I submitted due to lack of time :-P Its still "cute" though!
I never would have thought to paint them--what a great idea! I love the addition of the ribbon too.
