Everyday Stuff

So today I have nothing in particular to blog about, so I guess I will just write about the mundane things I've been doing this week.
Yesterday was the first day of school for my youngest - she's now a junior in High School. She was, I think, glad to get back to school, but in some ways, sad at the fact that her best friend is going to a different school this year. They've been together since Kindergarten, and went thru Girl Scouts together from Kindergarten thru eighth grade. So it's kind of a bummer that they won't get to spend their last two years in school together.
With school back in session, and hubs going to the church the last two days in a row, I've been able to get back into my regular routine. Yesterday and today I finally got caught up on all the laundry. Today I went grocery shopping, cleaned up the house, and went to the gas station, all chores I hate doing. Yesterday I made invitations for our September Ladies' Meeting. Our theme is "Back In The Swing of Things". My camera has no batteries, or I would take a picture of them to show you all, but I don't, so I won't. Oh well, them's the breaks, mamma! Anyhow they are just a slight variation of the bridal shower invites I made back in July.
Had to go to WalMart and buy another cat collar. George lost his today. I tell you, these cats are going thru collars like water. Prowler lost his first one, but I found it in the backyard, only to have him lose it again a couple of days later. So had to buy him a new one. Now today, it's George. I can't find ones small enough that also have the safety feature of quick release on them, so they are able to slide them over their heads, I guess.
This weekend will be a potluck supper after Sunday morning worship service. Then on Monday will be hubby's family reunion. It's held every year at my brother-in-law's home about 45 minutes drive from our house. My brother-in-law gets a HUGE (about 6 ft. long) BBQ grill and cooks every kind of meat you can think of, plus usually whatever fish he's caught during the summer. All the women make the side dishes, everyone brings their own specialty, and what a feast it is! Usually there's a giant water slide of some kind for the kids (and those who are kids at heart), the men congregate outside under the shade trees, and the women opt for the air conditioning inside. Family, food, and fun make for a great time every year.
Well, for not having much of anything to say, it looks like I've written quite a bit. So I guess I will close for now. This post makes one full month of blogging every single day. I thought I had done so in July, but just had more than one on the same day a couple of times, so I didn't really blog every day in July. But I have posted something every day this month, so I'm pretty proud of myself. Let's see if I can keep it up for September. Just fourteen more posts to make it to my 100th. Perhaps I'll have a give-away or something in celebration of that little milestone. We'll have to wait and see.
That's all for now. Til the next time, :D

New Wine for Seniors

California vintners, in the Napa Valley area, which primarily produces Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines, have developed a new hybrid grape that acts as an anti-diuretic. It is expected to reduce the number of trips older people have to make to the bathroom during the night.

The new wine will be marketed as...

STROKE IDENTIFICATION

New Sign of a Stroke: Stick out Your Tongue.

STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters.. S.T.R.

My friend sent this to me and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks. Seriously Please read:
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm , Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read this...
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE(Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their
tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other
that is also an indication of a stroke. If he or she has trouble with
ANY ONE of these tasks, call 911 immediately !! and describe the
symptoms to the dispatcher.

Puns

Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent.
2. A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, "I'll serve you, but don't start anything."
3. Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted.
4. A dyslexic man walks into a bra.
5. A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and says: "A beer please, and one for the road."
6. Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: "Does this taste funny to you?"
7. "Doc, I can't stop singing 'The Green, Green Grass of Home.'" "That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome." "Is it common?" "Well, It's Not Unusual."
8. Two cows are standing next to each other in a field. Daisy says to Dolly, "I was artificially inseminated this morning."
"I don't believe you," says Dolly.
"It's true, no bull!" exclaims Daisy.
9. An invisible man marries an invisible woman. The kids were nothing to look at either.
10. I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any.
11. A man woke up in a hospital after a serious accident. He shouted, "Doctor, doctor, I can't feel my legs!"
The doctor replied, "I know you can't - I've cut off your arms!"
12. I went to a seafood disco last week...and pulled a mussel.
13. What do you call a fish with no eyes? A fsh.
14. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says "Dam!"
15. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft.. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.
16. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse.
"But why," they asked, as they moved off.
"Because", he said, "I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer."
17. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal."The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."
18. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him.... a super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.
19. DejaMoo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before.
20. ...And finally, there was the person who sent twenty different puns to his friends, with the hope that at least ten of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did.

Dual Baby Shower

So, today was the baby shower at church for our two new mommies. We were worried for a while that it wouldn't be a very good turnout, because people are out on vacation or working. But we had a very nice turnout and the moms and babies got lots of wonderful goodies. So here's a few pics of the day's events.
Here's an idea I got from Plum Party. I made these from a 12"x12" sheet of scrapbook paper, then folded the napkins to fit and placed all of them in a basket for easy grabbing at cake time...
This is one of two of the blankets Esther made for the girls. Both moms were thrilled with those blankets and we all said the babies will probably never see them because mommies are going to be using the blankets themselves. Not really, we were teasing, but these blankets made by Es were fabulous and the moms loved them so much!
This is the "revised version" of the diaper cakes I made. When I did the second one I decided to add a layer, so then I went back and "revised" the first cake to include a fourth layer...
A shot of the gift table before it got loaded with loot for the babies. And believe me, it was loaded! Those ladies just ABUNDANTLY blessed the moms and babies with so many beautiful things.
Here's some of the ladies playing Baby Bingo...
Here's the cake we ordered- It's called "Baby Bud" and looks like an Anne Geddes portrait...
Moms and babies in front of the cake...

Forrest Gump Goes To Heaven

The day finally arrived. Forrest Gump dies and goes to Heaven. He is at the Pearly Gates, met by St. Peter himself. However, the gates are closed, and Forrest approaches the gatekeeper.

St. Peter said, "Well, Forrest, it is certainly good to see you. We have heard a lot about you I must tell you, though, that the place is filling up fast, and we have been administering an entrance examination for everyone. The test is short, but you have to pass it before you can get into Heaven."

Forrest responds, "It sure is good to be here, St. Peter, sir. But nobody ever told me about any entrance exam. I sure hope that the test ain't too hard. Life was a big enough test as it was."

St. Peter continued, "Yes, I know Forrest, but the test is only three questions.

First: What two days of the week begin with the letter T?
Second: How many seconds are there in a year?
Third: What is God's first name?"

Forrest leaves to think the questions over. He returns the next day and sees St. Peter, who waves him up, and says, "Now that you have had a chance to think the questions over, give me your answers"

Forrest replied, "Well, the first one -- which two days in the week begins with the letter "T"? Shucks, that one is easy. That would be Today and Tomorrow."

The Saint's eyes opened wide and he exclaimed, "Forrest , that is not what I was thinking, but you do have a point, and I guess I did not specify, so I will give you credit for that answer. How about the next one?" asked St. Peter.

"How many seconds in a year?

Now that one is harder," replied Forrest, but I thunk and thunk about that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve."

Astounded, St. Peter said, "Twelve? Twelve? Forrest, how in Heaven's name could you come up with twelve seconds in a year?"

Forrest replied, "Shucks, there's got to be twelve: January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd... "

"Hold it," interrupts St. Peter. "I see where you are going with this, and I see your point, though that was not quite what I had in mind....but I will have to give
you credit for that one, too. Let us go on with the third and final question.
Can you tell me God's first name"?

"Sure," Forrest replied, "it's Andy."

"Andy?" exclaimed an exasperated and frustrated St Peter. "Ok, I can understand how you came up with your answers to my first two questions, but just how in the world did you come up with the name Andy as the first name of God?"

"Shucks, that was the easiest one of all," Forrest replied. "I learnt it from the song, "ANDY WALKS WITH ME, ANDY TALKS WITH ME, ANDY TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN."

St. Peter opened the Pearly Gates, and said: "Run Forrest , run."

Some Good Mail Today!

Today I got some "good mail" from Jeannie at Put Some Polka Dots On It. She made me a Tussie Mussie, just "because" and then filled it with all sorts of neat little goodies. Here's the tussie, along with a matching tag she made. It's so pretty, perfect colors. I love all of it and am so appreciative that Jeannie was so thoughtful. Take a look at my new goodies!
When I opened the tussie, inside I found these goodies...A matching matchbox, a beautiful lace cameo, a tiny clothespin with ribbon wrapped around it and attached with a pearl hatpin, a pretty ribbon rose, a lace bow, and a pink rose...
This is the matchbox. When I opened it, it was filled with all these pretty pearl buttons. I will definately be using these VERY soon!
Here's a pic of everything she sent...
Jeannie didn't join the Tussie Mussie Goodie Swap because she said she didn't know how to make a Tussie Mussie. But I think she does a fabulous job, as this one proves! I just love it. Thanks so much, Jeannie!

Diaper Cake, Yummy!

Here's a peek at a diaper cake I just finished making for the baby shower this weekend. I still have to make another one, for the other mom, but they will be the same.
The top "layer" is a burp cloth wrapped around a box of baby wipes. The middle "layer" is a row of diapers wrapped around the bottom of the same box of wipes. I used a 10" cake pan to "form" the layer, then tied pink tuelle around the whole thing to hold it together. Bottom layer is formed in a 12" pan, with the same tuelle tied around it. Then I put both layers on cake boards. Decorations are socks, baby washcloths, burp cloths, hair bows, pacifier, spoon, rattles, a manicure set, a box of Q-Tips, and a little stuffed ducky for a cake topper. So now I will make another one and they will be used as part of the decorations at the shower, then the new moms can take them home. I will wrap the leftover diapers, along with some other goodies I bought, for them to have as well.

Tussie Mussie Goodie Swap Pics

Okay, so a couple of days ago I wrote that I hadn't received my tussie mussie from my swap partner. I was a bit hasty in saying that, as it was in the mail, even as I was writing. I received the package yesterday, but was off to a family wedding so didn't have time to post pictures until today. So here is the tussie mussie that Tonia made for me. It's so pretty. I really love the way she "pleated" the paper and the trim. She also tucked inside it a string of buttons, and some flowers, and a pretty angel fairy that she made. I love the tussie mussie, and all the other goodies she sent along with it. Great job, Tonia! Thank you so much!

This is the pretty little angel fairy that Tonia made, and tucked inside the tussie mussie...
This is the tea tin that I talked about yesterday. Tonia added the wooden letters on the front. I really love this tin alot! I love old tins and this one is great!
This is the top of the lid...
Cute little purse-size notebook, and jar of nifty buttons, ribbon, sequins and goodies...
A couple of months ago I had given a baby shower for our niece, April. So yesterday at the wedding, April's mom was there, and she got this depression glass piece and gave it me as a thank you gift for doing the baby shower. I totally love it. I love depression glass, and I remember my mom having this particular color and style of depression glass coffee cups when I was a kid. So I was thrilled to receive it!

Bad Batteries - No Pictures

Just a quick post to keep up with the dailies. Today was the wedding for our niece (the one I held the shower for 2 weeks ago). It was a 2 1/2 hour drive each way to get to the wedding and back home. The wedding was very nice and I took a lot of pics, but they turned out all blury. I think my batteries were getting low. So, I will look thru them later and see if there are any worth sharing, or if they're just all a mess.
I also got my tussie mussie package today, from my swap partner. I haven't had time to take pics of it yet either, but I will and get them posted probably tomorrow afternoon. She sent a really pretty tussie that was filled with flowers, buttons and a really pretty little angel fairy she made. There was also an awesome antique tea tin that is green, but the paint is really old, and has that great patina and is coming off a little - I really love this so much. I love old tins and this one is in great antique condition. Inside the tin was a glass jar filled with all kinds of really neat old buttons and little gems that will be perfect for scrapbooking or other projects I may feel in the mood to try. There was also a pretty little notebook, just the perfect size to fit inside my purse. Lots of lovely goodies that I know Tonia put a lot of effort and thought into making a lovely package. Thanks, Tonia, I really do love it all.
Okay, I'm really tired now - it's been a very looonnnnggggg day! I will get pics up tomorrow afternoon of the swap stuff, and hopefully, also the wedding. TTFN

Sharing Peanuts

A tour bus driver is driving with a bus load of seniors down a highway when he is tapped on his shoulder by a little old lady.
She offers him a handful of peanuts, which he gratefully munches up.
After about 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful of peanuts.
She repeats this gesture about five more times.
When she is about to hand him another batch again he asks the little old lady, 'Why don't you eat the peanuts yourself?'.
'We can't chew them because we've no teeth', she replied.
The puzzled driver asks, 'Why do you buy them then?'
The old lady replied, 'We just love the chocolate around them.'
It pays to be careful around old people.

Tussie Mussie

So since I never received my tussie mussie from my swap partner, I decided to treat myself to a tussie. This was an old one that I took apart and "redid". It had wintery Christmas flowers in it with ivory ribbon. I took that all off and added the lace and pink ribbon, then removed the Christmas-y florals and added the pink roses. I think it will hang on the knob of the door on my desk, 'cause it looks pretty good there, and it will give me a little smile when I sit here at my computer and blog.
Wow, three posts in one day. I think that's a record for me. But sometimes Christy over at BonBonBoutique, puts up several things in one day. She shops and finds great things and then posts them on her blog to share with all of us. Way to go, Christy!

Fan Invitations

So here's the pic of the fan invitations Esther and I made this morning. We will hand deliver them to each of the ladies on Sunday morning. I thought the fan idea was a good one, then when hubby is preaching, if we get to feeling "sleepy" we can use the fans to either hide our droopy eyelids or fan away all the "hot air" to try and wake ourselves back up. LOL Oops, did I say that?

Blogging Tutorial

Today Esther came over and she helped me finish the baby shower invitations for the Double Shower we're having at our church next week. We made them like a little miniature fan, with the name and birth info of one baby on one side and the other baby info on the other side. They are white with pink printing and pink handles with little pink ribbons on each side. Got the idea for these from the ParTea Planner's blog, where she made some for wedding programs. Then I used the same idea to make menus for the bridal shower that I did a couple of weeks ago. I will add a picture in a little while, as I haven't taken one yet. Am just using this post to show Esther some stuff on the old blogisphere. We "tutor" each other on many different subjects. She's a computer wiz, but I do blogging better than her. She's sitting right here next to me while I write this and we are both laughing out loud.
Okay, bloggie fans, I'll do some more later on- maybe I'll post the pics of the invite fans this afternoon.

The Secret

This "secret" was passed to me today in an email from my friend Esther. Now I pass it to all of you.
The Secret
One day, one friend asked another, "How is it that you are always so happy? You have so much energy, and you never seem to get down."
With her eyes smiling, she said, "I know the Secret!"
"What secret is that?"
To which she replied, "I'll tell you all about it, but you have to promise to share the Secret with others."
"The Secret is this:
I have learned there is little I can do in my life that will make me truly happy. I must depend on God to make me happy and to meet my needs. When a need arises in my life, I have to trust God to supply according to HIS riches. I have learned most of the time I don't need half of what I think I do. He has never let me down.
Since I learned that 'Secret', I am happy."
The questioner's first thought was, "That's too simple!"
But upon reflecting over her own life she recalled how she thought a bigger house
would make her happy, but it didn't!
She thought a better paying job would make her happy, but it hadn't.
When did she realize her greatest happiness?
Sitting on the floor with her grandchildren, playing games, eating pizza or reading a story, a simple gift from God.
Now you know it too!
We can't depend on people to make us happy. Only GOD in His infinite wisdom can do that. Trust HIM!
And now I pass the Secret on to you! So once you get it, what will you do?
YOU have to tell someone the Secret, too! That GOD in His wisdom will take care of YOU!
But it's not really a secret...We just have to believe it and do it...Really trust God!
Just Pass It On!

Fun Finds From The Pink Chandelier

These are the fun finds I got from my friend, Becky's boutique, The Pink Chandelier, on Saturday. I got all the stuff you see below for 23 buckaroos! I think I scored!
This is a handmade "tag" card. The fairy is a "wallie" that is meant to be pasted on the wall as a decoration. But my crafty friend Theresa, had the idea to use it on a tag/card. I think I might "house" it on the shelf pictured below...
This pedestal cake plate, that I have a very special plan in mind for it that I can't share right now...
This apron is hand-crocheted, and the 3-branch candelstick is vintage silver...
New "vintage" pink brooch, and vintage silver tussie mussie (I love tussies sooo much!)

Not Much To Say

Almost forgot I hadn't posted anything on my blog today. But then no one's been reading it lately anyhow. At least if they have been reading, they haven't been leaving any comments to let me know they've been reading. But I guess that's okay, too, because I read lots of people's blogs and don't necessarily leave comments to them either. So this post today is just to be keeping up with my daily ramblings about random things.
I will say, however, that in two weeks our ladies group at church will be hosting a baby shower for two brand new mommies in our church. It's the wildest thing...both babies were born in the same hospital within about four hours of each other, and neither set of parents knew the other was there. Both babies were girls. The first one to be born was the third child with two older brothers waiting patiently for her arrival. The second baby was the first child for a couple that hubby married 2 1/2 years ago. So, that's one way to make your church "grow". Get new babies born into it! Ha!
So in the next two weeks I'll be busy planning and preparing goodies for this shower. Since both babies are girls, we can use all the decorations I had made for April's baby shower back in June. This should be a fun party because we'll get to have both babies present! Both mommies are sweethearts, too, so it will be a pleasure to do this for them.
Okay, blogger fans, that's about all I've got for today. Sundays are always a long hard day for me, and so I'm tired and don't really want to write anything else right now. So, until tomorrow, see ya!

The Pink Chandelier

Today my friend Becky had her first ever boutique to showcase her artwork. She is launching a brand new business called "The Pink Chandelier". Becky is a fabulous artist and craftsperson. Below are just a couple of pics I took to show how beautiful her "boutique" aka her backyard is and show off her decorating skills too.
"Welcome" sign leading people to the boutique area...

This is her new outdoor "room" she just had built onto her patio. It is so much more beautiful in person than the picture shows.

This is a shot of one wall of her outdoor "room". She painted that poodle pic hanging over the mantel.

Obsessed!

Okay, so call me crazy, or obsessed, or whatever you want, but I am convinced that Baby has been nabbed by someone and that they are holding her hostage. AND, I think I know who it might be. But I can't prove it. All I have are my suspicions.
Here's the deal...Baby has been missing for 2 weeks, now, and almost every day I have called the Animal Control in my city to see if they've picked up anybody matching her description, dead or alive. They have not. I have checked the Animal Shelter website about 20 times a day, every day, and she is not listed as lost & found, for adoption, or deceased.
A week ago Sunday, I went around the block that runs behind my house. My cats always go over the back fence to that street (there's a lot of other cats over there). I was going door to door with my flyers. At one house about halfway down the block, a person answered the door. I thought this person was acting "strange". She seemed to be, I don't want to sound mean or anything, but she seemed to be kind of retarded. I inquired about my cat, and she started telling me all about how she had to take her "cats" to the vet the day before and what all the vet told her they needed, i.e., flea control, worming, etc. I thought it was a little strange that she would go into so much detail to a stranger, but I guess it's not really that out-of-the-ordinary to an animal lover. I listened to her story, then thanked her for her time and started to walk away. Then she said, "Isn't that strange, I was just thinking about you." I stopped and said, "O, did you see my flyers out in the neighborhood?" She said, "No, I was just thinking about you." I thanked her again and left. But that statement of hers "bothered" me. It just seemed way too wierd for normal.
Several times I've been back to her house, and she never answers the door. Today I was out walking the neighborhood again, and she happened to be coming out of her house. So I walked over to her and asked her again if she'd seen Baby. Her response was, "No, ugh-ugh. No, I told you that a couple of weeks ago. I was just wondering if you were still looking for her." I said, "Yes, I'm still looking for her. She has brothers and sisters and a mommy that all miss her very much, plus I miss her very much. So, if she comes around her would you please send her back over the fence or call me." She said, "No the only stray I've seen around her is the tan one that I told you about before. And it was over on Stearns." (Stearns is the street that runs perpendicular to our streets)Again, the person was acting very strange. I just have a gut feeling that she's got Baby captured inside her house and doesn't want to give her back.
The first time Baby ran away and was gone for a day, when she came home, she came from the direction of this person's house. I guess I might just be grasping at straws to think this, but I can't figure out how this cat, who is a loving home-body, could just disappear. Why didn't all the cats disappear? If she has been killed, why hasn't Animal Control reporting it?
Anybody have any serious suggestions of how I can find out if this person has my cat or not? Or do I just need to get a grip, and move on?

Shower Pics

I was looking thru all the pics I took yesterday at the bridal shower and there are 78 total. I figured that's way too many to try to post on here. I went thru and picked out the ones I wanted to share here, and there are still way too many to post all at once. It would make about a three-page post. So, I will post a few now, and then a few more tomorrow, and then we'll see after that.
There were six of these signs hanging along the walkway to the party area. Each one was the word "Love" in a different language...

These were the little baskets I trimmed in fur and filled with homemade bathsalts and sweet honey lip balm. They sat on the "Vani-Tea" Table...

The Tussie Mussies I made, filled with salt water taffy candy...

We played dress the bride with toilet papaer. The model to the left is my daughter...and this is the bride-to-be in her "wedding dress"...
